Perennial Enhancements officially began February 15, 2001 by Mary Costello to help homeowners who love gardens but didn’t have the know how or time to take care of them. It is Mary’s philosophy to care for your garden as if it were her own. If your garden is under her care, she believes the only thing a you should have to do is dream.

We are Green! (And always have been.)   We aren’t Green just because that is the thing to be.  We are Green for you, your family, your pets, and your future.

• We take the time to match the plant to the site to minimize resources necessary for best plant performance.

• Yard waste is composted, either in your yard or at a community composting center.  We use compost when planting.

• We us only organic fertilizer specific to your soil’s needs.

• We rarely, if ever, use gas or electric powered equipment.

Garden by Perennial Enhancements

We buy local.  We have found local suppliers that supply us with high quality plants and materials. At Perennial Enhancements we believe it is important to support the local businesses to promote the economical health of Michigan and maintain market variety so we have choices other than the big box stores.

We service mainly residential homes in Michigan’s Southeastern Oakland and Northern Wayne counties.  We invite commercial clients and  those who live outside of the service area to contact Perennial Enhancements about your projects.  If we cannot be of service to you we can certainly refer you to someone equally qualified.

Owner and Horticulturist

Mary’s love for gardening came from her Grandfather–Quentin Freidhoff.  Every year Grandpa Freidhoff would order seeds from the Burpee Seed Catalog.  Burpee would through in a mixed package of seed just for kids.  When Mary was four-years-old he let her plant the seeds in his gar

den.  Little did he know the seeds he was planting.  (Editor’s Note: He knew exactly what he was doing!)

Mary has a Certificate of Fine Arts in Gardening from the Michigan School of Gardening along with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.  Prior to starting Perennial Enhancements  Mary spent 13 years in the auto industry in Information Technology .

JoAnn,

Horticulturist

JoAnn has been a gardener all her life as well.  She also has a Certificate of Fine Arts in Gardening from the Michigan School of Gardening.  JoAnn’s specialty is container gardening.

Before joining Perennial Enhancements JoAnn spent time as an Ice Cream Truck Driver (in her youth), an insurance administrator and works as a substitute teacher in the winter months.
